Getting a stopover at LAX on the return could well be problematic, because of the requirement that you fly to LAX on a direct flight from either Europe or the Middle East/India. Finding J award space on AA's LHR-LAX flight can be difficult; flying that route on BA will incur hefty surcharges.

If you can forgo the LAX stopover, have you looked into redeeming AA miles via the Pacific on an Explorer award? You could get the roundtrip via the Pacific for only 130K AA miles.
I'd be open to skipping the LAX stopover. But what routing would get this to 130K from LAX roundtrip since mileage would need to be under 20,000 for the Explorer award?
