To followup, the claim was paid very expediously by Diners Club as they have primary insurance. While I did no damage to the car, I won't be renting from Hertz anytime soon after almost 20 years with them. This was a pure money grab, plain and simple. Pretty disgusting! I feel bad that Diners had to pay Hertz for something that never occurred. I also won't be cancelling my diners club card anytime soon.
