Thanks for the input. I found a dirt cheap Edimax 6226n that boasts the WISP mode (as well as a repeater mode like the 7416n) so I'll give it a try and report back. It seems to be a bit larger than the 7416 but hopefully it can also be powered via a USB battery pack. As a side note I couldn't find many WISP enabled routers in the current Edimax lineup. You'd think that would be a popular feature but surprisinly few people know about it.
