Delta really devalued the budget frequent flyer who used their loyalty program and spent a few extra dollars per route, knowing they get a good return. That return is now disappeared for the TXV flyers, and makes the program pretty worthless outside of EC seats.
this one is easy. With a few exceptions mostly our employers are paying for them. The miles allow us to take families and such on vacation less expensively and the status gets us treated way better on upgrades from Y or misconnects and such on A/P fares.

would you rather be an FO or a diamond flying on a $2200 cross country P fare with a connecting flight cancelled?
