If an employee is truly valuable, the company should have no problem assigning one of the earned 5 SE statues to them.
The suggestion in the post above mine also works great. I am sure companies would love getting money back, again, which they can then spend as they see fit - including on those employees you keep saying give up so much to fly for work.
Yes, its a dream world, and it will never happen. But it would sure thin the herd of OPM elites who seem to be the most vocal and jumping for joy everytime a change like this happens. It would leave elite status, to those who truly earn it, including those who own their own busiensses, and/or fly for business, not just for work.
Trust me, the entities (those who have high spend with AC) are getting something back in return from AC, more than the VIP status. It's not published anywhere nor should it be.
As well, our employees (not the same case for every organization) can fly with any airlines within reasonable cost, so they are the one who influences which airlines gets the money, so why wouldn't AC, in this case, not reward the employee.
