In my travels among many carriers, I have noticed many differences. AA for example has the 500 mile upgrades, UA before the merger had those instead of CPUs, DL has always had the CPUs. But when you expand to international carriers like AF, KL, LH, BA, LX, A3, TG, QF and AC, they offer NO complimentary upgrades on short-haul (or long-haul).

While I think the U.S. carriers will eventually move in baby steps toward eliminating this altogether, what would be the next best thing? What would they introduce in lieu of CPUs?
