Emirates First Class:
I wanted to write the trip report to highlight the option of the reasonably priced (relatively!) Emirates first class option and I already mentioned above the trade off compared to the longer flight. The flight continues on to Dubai after stopping in Bangkok.
Lounges
Hong Kong: on the mezzanine level and is open roofed. It's well maintained and the food and drink selection was wide with a good choice of hot and cold dishes and beers, wines and champagne. The highlight was the club sandwiches which were made to order.
Bangkok: nothing of note. It was quiet and had the standard Emirate decor. The food offerings were more canteen style, it was a very low key lounge.
Flight
The flight was undeniably fabulous if only too short! There were only 4 of us in the cabin and we were lavished with Dom Pérignon and a la carte dining. The middle seats are great for travelling with someone as the center divider lowers but if solo the window seats are more private. The bathrooms were lovely, the largest I've ever been in and amenities were top notch. This is probably the one time I was hoping for a delay to catch a few every minutes on the plane!
The seat and suite was very comfortable and it was easy to forget I was on a flight. The crew were unobtrusive but attentive and generous with the offerings. I loved the entertainment system, the tv was massive and watching the live feed of the A380 taking off and landing was really interesting.
