best to do the individual segment search when looking for upgrades. Beginning to end searches usually only report space if available on all segments. So one zero segment will hide availability in another segment.

Yes waitlist is a term for being in one cabin and looking for an upgrade to another cabin. (you can also waitlist for different flights)
