I had one of these last year. Hertz never contacted me and just turned it over to their collections agency. I complained that as a PC member, they should have contacted me directly instead of hiring out some muscle to try to intimidate me. I got no response from Hertz until one guy in their adjusters offices said that it was their policy to turn over any "minor" claim directly to collections.

A cracked headlight ended up costing me about $950 (this was after my insurance paid up, too). They claimed somewhere around $500 in "loss of use" damages against me. I never did get a single apology from Hertz for threatening to ding my credit over something which they first communicated via that threat letter.
