LAX -> HNL (HA) -> NAN (FJ) -> AKL (FJ) is the business class itinerary that was approved by AA. Only FJ's published through fares for LAX -> AKL are relvant to AA when evaluating this itinerary. The only FJ business class fare that allows HNL to be in the routing is the YY fare, which FJ voluntarily participates in. AA also subsequently approved LAX -> HNL (HA) -> NAN (FJ) -> CHC (FJ) based on a YY business class fare.
One can insist that these and other examples of YY fare usage are mistakes, because of a conflicting internal AA document produced years ago, or one can accept the current reality on the ground. Rules get superceded. Policies change. Sometimes uncomfortably without prior notice and without kepping those in the loop who previously were. That's life.
I apologize for yet another noisy, face-saving, "absolute nonsense" post. I'll try to do better next time. At least I've finally graduated from being ignorant.
