Attaining Gold is skewed towards those who either figure out a way to do a TP run or 2 for not very much or those flying in premium cabins on medium+long-haul. Nothing wrong with the latter, but it does not leave much of a chance for those of us flying in cheap Y all over Europe.
I do my fair share of 20-TP ET flights every week. Believe me, it's not a bunch of F flights sipping champagne in 1A!

As to the qualification level, everyone would love to move the bar up or down according to their own travel patterns. I would set it at number of flights, not TPs. Set it at 100 BA flights per year - that'll soon have the tumbleweed blowing through the lounge.
Gold may be easy for those high fliers who do a few Fs each year, but for those of us at the back of the domestic and ET bus, earning 10 or 20TPs a flight, it is anything but.
I was there from 1230-1400, on the terrace, in the far SE corner. The rest of the place was too hot. At 1300 is was heaving!
