A box as checked luggage on UA?

Hello

I haven't done this in a long time, but am taking a box (with ice skates and a few small items) from SFO to London soon. Simple question: Do I have to make the box more like a piece of luggage for UA to accept it? For example, do I have to add one of those handles that you can tie to the box?

Also, will the TSA re-seal it with tape if they open it for inspection, or do I have to provide some way to re-close it?
