I generally prefer HGIs as they are typically more modern facilities with more consistent quality.
DoubleTree on the other hand has been terribly inconsistent and I generally avoid them if I can get an HGI for the same rate although they aren't my last choices by any means, just typically dated buildings with wear showing. On the flip side I had great stays at some DTs like Reddington Beach.
