They'll be treated as standby and added to the list when they arrive at the gate. So technically people already confirmed in Y who've got e-up requests in will get upgraded first, then that'll open up seats in Y, which will be processed through the standby list.

They may get lucky and if there's nobody who's requested an upgrade, they could get straight through, but I think that requires some extra work for the gate agent, so not sure.
