"Seriously, the FA should have sent the complaining passenger to Coach and given her a bulkhead seat and asked the Economy guy to take her seat. There was no reason for you to move back. Next time this happens, you should suggest this to the FA although I doubt any other FA would be so dumb to ask you not to recline"
THAT is the perfect solution! I would be very upset and $200 would mean little if I moved on a longer flight to economy from first just to relieve back pressure/recline.
I always recline fully, slowly, in first, business or coach and expect other passengers may do the same. I haven't though to ask a person who is working behind me if they would prefer to switch seats if the person in front of my didn't seem to recline fully, but I will do that in the future, assuming I'm not going to get stuck next to a lav, or in a last non-fully-reclining row. Yes, during meals I sit upright, or nearly upright, and have asked a passenger in front of me to kindly do the same. Otherwise, bring eyemasks. Earplugs. Take sleeping pills. Move to another seat where there's more room. Whatever, but I absolutely will fully recline once permitted by the captain. Flying is hard enough physically without sitting upright.
So far, thank God, I haven't been faced with a passenger behind me using one of those plastic devices that prevent reclining. Then what would one do, knowing that the device has been FAA approved to block reclining? OMG--what a miserable flight, especially if it's a long one. I think the best hope is to recline early before reaching cruising altitude.
Has anyone had the person behind them insert that device that prevents you from reclining? If so, how did you handle that?
