Confused by Flight Status and "where is this flight coming from"

A bit confusing, so please bear with me...

My mother-in-law is flying DEN-MSN tonight on UA6184. Currently, it is showing on-time.

When I click on the "where is this flight coming from" link, it shows UA6084 FAR-DEN, which is also showing on time.

This is where things get weird. That flight does not have a "where is this flight coming from link". When I search for 6084, there are two flights, one from DEN-FAR and another from FAR-DEN (both have same flight number). The DEN-FAR flight, which is supposed to leave at 201pm is showing as 3 hours late due to late arriving aircraft. But when I click on "where is this aircraft coming from", it says that it's the FAR-DEN 6084 flight, which isn't supposed to leave FAR until 5:25 ?

So, as I'm reading things, there are two possible scenarios:
1) DEN-FAR is delayed by 3 hours, which will ultimately result in 3+ hour delays for FAR-DEN and DEN-MSN.
2) DEN-FAR is delayed, but they have another aircraft in FAR which will operate the FAR-DEN run. Then it's anybody's guess as to whether that aircraft will go DEN-FAR or DEN-MSN.

I'm guessing that there is no extra E145 in FAR, so I'm thinking #1 is more likely, but any thoughts on this? UA's flight status system can be so messed up sometimes!
