Advice from the EWR or LGA area which typically have frequent service. On a day with rain, fog and winds - you should get to the airport early (if scheduled departure is late in advance). Check in at the OLCI and stand-by for the next flight out. While you may not get a preferred seat you can hopefully take a seat of a someone missing their connection and better to get on a plane at the airport vs. wait for an inbound aircraft which might encounter (mechanical, further FAA delays or crew time expiration <requiring you wait for another crew>).
