The answer depends in part on what kind of shoes are you planning to buy in HK and where?
You will most likely find shoe prices to be
higher in HK vs. buying them here in the US, at retails @ sale prices and at outlets, discounted - even adjusted for no sales tax/duty-free status upon returning to the US, etc.
If you go to Stanley Market on the island side or CityGate Outlet Mall at Tung Chung on Lantau Island by HKIA, you should have better luck finding your size (Nike or Adidas, buy them there & take them home, LOL) - stores along Nathan Road, TST and Central with lots of "foreign" or non-Chinese visitors traffic might stock your size, which is UK 47. Imported European brands from France, Italy or anything with a designer label on it is going to cost a little fortune & high end store aren't going to bargain on prices with you, especially if they might (or at least claim to) do a special order for you for next day pickup, etc.
We have friends that come to the US & on their return trips, would load up here on Timberlands, KC & Rockport, etc. to take home - it used to be the other way around, with HKG as shopper's heaven. Not anymore, except for mainlanders loaded with cash ...
