One thing to look into is opening a checking account online at a local credit union. You can fund with a cc. Then use it to pay your tax bill for free. I've never tried this, but read about it in another thread.
Good luck
I appreciate the question. Thanks for posting.
I am trying to MS this to get points in my WN, points in my HH, and the most cash back bonus from CCs that I have (regrettably, as I have stated I cannot seem to bust the ceiling and get approved for the higher cashback cards).
Those that keep telling me to read the MULTIPLICITOUS number of posts (some threads so convoluted, it's maddening) don't take into account the suggestions there are such things as INK, which I will not falsify I have a business to obtain. Or Sapphire, or OLD BLUE, etc. If I had those cards, I would not have chosen the 1.5% CB card I have chosen to take the "ouch" off the fees I pay in VRs, BP, or MOs. I don't mean to sound rude, just serious.
I can't MS enough to actually pay the tax bill. When it comes to MS, I need a specific goal for why I am doing it. People I care about think anything I do to enhance travel rewards is foolish. My in law(s) thought it was dumb to even rent a car and yet the reason I look for miles/points to accumulate is so we as a family can attend any life altering event that occurs and requires travel to them out of state. More short term, I also need WN points to do quick trips for MY family issues where they live. I can usually plan them enough in advance to find a 8k points trip. Spend just $142 to get 600 WN miles when things tend to change? Using points is frequently more flexible.
I have never heard of funding a liquid account at a bank/credit union with a credit card. Something easy for the unbanked? Boy, if you could, that would eliminate a lot of the multiplied minutiae in MS and debit accounts! BTW, I already have 2 CU accounts.
