SYR-EWR-HNL 6am flight delayed 4 hours due to crew rest and then another 5 hours due to a mechanical delay. Had to spend the night in EWR (used points) and missed a day of vacation in HNL.

Tickets were booked using miles and were business/first class fares.

It took them 4 weeks to get back to me after filing the initial complaint.

Initial offer was $250 voucher or 10k mile plus up to $100 for the hotel if I submitted an original receipt.

Since I didn't have the receipt and negotiated a little bit, I ended up getting a $350 voucher or 15k mile offer.

I accepted the $350 offer for both my wife and I.

Overall, we missed a day of vacation and had to deal with some headaches, but now we can get another free domestic trip out of hassle.
