DoubleTree vs. Hilton Garden Inn
I have a pretty good idea (I think ) of the regular Hiltons, Hilton Garden Inns, and Homewood Suites. I have stayed just once at a Double Tree (Miami Airport) and once at a Hilton Garden Inn (Lake Oswego, OR). In deciding between a Double Tree and a HGI near the Phoenix Airport, I see that the DT offers a free breakfast, the HGI free Wi-Fi, and DT ruimes are suites, but otherwise look pretty similar. I could stay at the HGI for 30k Hilton Honors points, while the DT would cost 40K. Yet the base cash price at the HGI is $30-40 more than the DT, using AARP discount.
Is the price difference fairly typical, or is it just a matter of location and specific properties? Thanks.
