LAS is a much easier drop-in for a couple of nights, LAX takes a bit more time to get used to. That said my favorite trip in the area was down highway 1 , SFO to LAX stopping in Monterey and Pismo Beach then on to Santa Monica. That would be a fine use of a week but all depends what you like ...
