Do you have to travel on AA? You'll need to change at LAX making it 4+ hours instead of 2. There are non-stops on United, Frontier and Southwest. Shouldn't be more than $200, especially if you are open to OAK (or even SJC) as alternatives in the Bay Area.

Of course, if you need the tier points, you can get AA F for $350 and that'll net you 120 TP's.
