Well now that's a matter of opinion, isn't it! For anyone who has suffered the intimidation and bullying of window closers on 14+ hour TPAC flights it is a major issue! It's not just claustrophobia but there are some people who simply cannot sleep and are even afraid to close their eyes on today's planes!

The current system most certainly DOES NOT work fine.
It works fine only for those who succeed in bullying or intimidating those in window seats - or manage to coerce the FAs into doing their dirty work.
With the 787, assuming the FAs max dark the windows it seems like a good compromise.
You call that a "compromise"??? That's bullying by any other name. The individual window controls are there for the convenience of passengers seated beside them. Abuse of the master override control by FAs will just lead to more problems!
As I understand from Boeing's design specs, the FAs have mutiple override controls which allow them to darken just one side or a section of one side.
Of course I hope this is all in the instruction manual!
