I think this website has lots of information on spots for some plane watching. Outside the north perimeter the Thistle hotel has a outside terrace on the top floor, and you can get to it using the same pods that go to the adjacent business car park. I presume that you can enjoy a drink on the terrace whilst watching which seems quite civilised.
