It's hard to justify as much intra-Asia (via NRT) and one-off O&D routes from US to Japan / Asia when DL coule likely command higher fares and better yields by consolidating Asia routes via SEA. Yes they lose the Japan-HI leisure market in the process but how good is DL's reputation in Asia anyway and given the expansion of LCCs in Asia and DL's limited presence at NRT compared to rivals, how likely are folks in Asia to use DL?
Much less likely than they were to use NW, who had a much better reputation and marketing presence, that's for sure.
DL still has no problem filling its flights out of KIX close to 100%, and running respectable Y loads out of FUK and NGO (but, that is not an indication of the profitability, however).
