Comfort Hotel Sapporo, Japan

Choice comes through again, this time for a 4-night stay in Japan for the end of the Sapporo Snow Festival and some skiing at Teine. 8,000 points per night. A total bargain!

This is the second Comfort Hotel I have stayed at in Japan. I think they strive for consistency, which is fine. My spouse and I stayed in the largest room on the top floor, which was surprisingly spacious, though lacking furniture on which to put our clothes. It also had two single beds, something we noticed when we went to Japan for our honeymoon as well. I suspect double beds are not even an option in this business-oriented hotel.

The beds were comfortable enough, with a cozy comforter on top. You can request extra pillows from the front desk, which helps as they are the firm Japanese type. The bathroom is a typical enclosed plastic pod which is serviceable for your needs, including a super-hot bath in the narrow but deep soaking tub. Lots of amenities, too - 2 hair brushes, dental kits, razors, etc. as well as robes and slippers for use in the room.

ETA: Good, fast, free wireless internet was no problem. If you want to rent a computer for some reason, you can do so at the front desk for 500 yen/day.

Breakfast was actually quite good! Each morning had western (egg/sausage) and Japanese (onigiri/miso) options, as well as a selection of breads, yogurt, fruit, coffee/tea etc. We were trying to fill up for skiing, and it was tasty!

The location was pretty convenient for us. It is a couple blocks from the Susukino district, which is all nightlife, shopping, restaurants, etc. Perhaps 4-5 blocks from Odori park or the Susukino subway station. To get to/from the airport, catch the bus near the Sapporo Prince Hotel 2 blocks away (they have maps and directions at the front desk, and at the airport for the way into town.)

The last night before the Snow Festival, this hotel was sold out and I had to redeem 40,000 IHG points for the ANA Sapporo. The marginal difference in quality was not worth it - if (when) I come back to Sapporo again, I will definitely stay at the Comfort Hotel.
