It is a big deal in europe to walk through a cafe and use the washroom without buying anything. At least order a glass of mineral water or a coffee- if you do this standing up at the bar in Italy the cost will be maximum 1.10 EUR for an espresso (note: can be a very different price if you are sitting down or if you order something such as a cappuccino).
