Further to this the cabin crew mentioned that this particular aircraft has been flying in this condition for 4 days.
OK, that's intolerable, especially the bit about them insisting that the shades remain closed. Did they actually come by and close the shades while people were reading? Sounds like 2nd grade naptime.
Besides, what possible rationale could they provide? If passengers want to sleep, that's what sleep masks are for.
