This stay, with the lounge closed, we were given coupons for "appetizers" in Potters. These had no actual value in Potters. The "appetizers" consisted of pita chips and a nearly empty cheese plate set on a small table. No plates, no napkins, bit of cheeses smeared all over the cloth. At the bar, when I asked about the "appetizer coupon", we were given two small plates and pointed toward the pita chips and cheese remains.
For breakfast we were given coupons to Lockwoods for continental breakfast. When we went down yesterday morning, there was a huge line of people waiting to be seated in Lockwoods-- the line stretched all the way across the lobby to the registration desk. I asked, at the front desk, for other options and was told there was none. I asked to have the manager call me when he/she was available as I was unhappy with the lounge substitutes. I left my cell number and we went to the Bakery Café next door for breakfast. 23 hours later, I have yet to be called.

In an unrelated issue, Palmer House has removed coffee makers from the rooms. When I called down about this after check in, I was told I could just order coffee from room service. When I pressed, saying I hadn't been in a Hilton in years that did not have coffee makers, the clerk told me they did have them, "on request only". I requested one and was told to call room service for that. After a 15 minute hold, I was able to request one from room service. 20 minutes later it arrived with several coffee packets and one paper cup. When the maid was cleaning Saturday, she removed the cup(in fairness, it had been used). When we came back to the room mid afternoon, I asked a maid in the hall for another cup and was instructed to call 36 to request cups. At that number I was told to call room service. I was able to get right thru - but 30 minutes later, still no cups. Frustrated, I went to the Bakery Café for coffee. The cups were delivered after I left.

Had we not expected actual diamond benefits the stay would have fallen into the adequate category, with the annoyance with the coffee maker balanced out by the location and attractiveness of the building. But, the utterly worthless fake benefits are infuriating.
The coffee makers have been gone for a while. I really didn't mind it when the lounge was open because I normally don't have coffee until after I shower and dress anyway, but they should be available for people that want them.

I had no issues with a long line for breakfast, but sounds like I was lucky. I preferred the breakfast in lockwood's over the lounge breakfast because it was such a pain to find a table (I was assured that the overcrowding issue is being addressed and will be fixed when the lounge reopens and will probably result in gold's not having lounge access unless on the exec level and given a starbucks voucher like at the SF Hilton or diamonds being given an alternate breakfast option). I did like the lounge for free softdrinks during the day.

I agree the appetizer chit is a total joke. They should give diamonds two drink coupons. The appetizers are available to everyone drinking down in the bar anyway and with this set up you are forced to drink. I guess you could go down and order water but I would feel pretty out of place doing that.

Has the dedicated diamond check in line in the lobby reopened? I was told it was due to open by Feb 1.
