That's a good point about YWG, we had service and it went largely unused. And they didn't have to compete with a nonstop AC LHR flight either.
However, media and advertising wise, it was very much marketed as a nonstop YWG-KEF service than a connecting service like they are pushing for YEG. They thought they could make a go of it because of our large(ish) Icelandic population in the province, but obviously that was insufficient. If they advertised cheap service to Europe instead they would have done better.
Furthermore, YWG doesn't have the blind hatred for AC that a portion of the Edmonton population has (here, that honour is reserved for UA). That alone could fill a few seats.
