UAL can chose to focus on what its problems are, the old pre-merger UFC did a very good job of this, and was both respectful and constructive. What changed the tone was not "more negative people" it was a company that is doing negative things, and is making people negative, and turning them off buying from UAL is very large numbers.

1) call me an apologist (not explicitly but it's not hard to read between the lines)
2) elements of the truth to justify a position but ignoring the larger context
