Two more data points, with Moto G:

Brief layover at CKS taiwan, checked with home for storm update via skype call. Emails too. Dont recall carrier but screen read E and got full bars.

Now in Hong Kong for wkend, skype, wechat, line, whatsapp all work, along with emails. Homescreen shows 3G full bars but skype connection at airport not very clear. Line call to Mrs. while on airportexpress was also spotty, better when i got to island.


Update- TMO free data on Moto g more reliable than smart tone 3G/lte on my iPhone 5s (vz CDMA model). Skype and Line drop on 5s but solid with G. Not sure if hardware or bandwidth.....

Second update - tethering with moto G on TMO n/a, whereas with using post paid 3g on 5s is fine....typing update on ipad tethering off 5s. Strange???
