selling paid upgrades in front of elites
So here is a new scenario I'd like to throw out to the community. Let me know if I am crazy here or if the agent completely botched this situation.

I'm on AS 516 today SEA-SNA. I'm a Gold and #1 on the waitlist.

there are 15 booked seats out of 16 in F. I am waiting for my name to be called but instead I hear the agent offer the 1 remaining seat for sale for a $50 fee.

when I inform her that I'm #1 on the list and inquire about my complimentary upgrade, she informs me that she's obligated to sell the seat if she can and that the first person to pay gets the seat.

people storm the agent so I decide to bite the bullet and pay for the upgrade so I can document the issue and try and recover my $50.

am I crazy or did the agent completely mess this up?
