That argument has merit, assuming DL statements are correct and you are assigning zero value to customer loyalty.
Still, if the goal is to thin the herd, then simply remove the credit card benefits towards status. That, more than anything else, is creating a legion of medallions.
Of course, that will never happen. The DL credit card is a cash cow.
