The United website states that these partners enlarge their network. BA isn't listed as one, but certain BA flights do show up on itinerary searches with United. So that just confuses me more about what being a global UA partner means.
I'm anticiapting traveling to TXL this summer. If nothing changes, I'll do my best to fly an itinerary comprised entirely of UA and LH (or some other *A) flights. I'm glad that I became aware of this issue before booking an itinerary with 4U.
It means that UA will sell you a ticket on the partner's metal and that there may be additional benefits (such as RDM earnings) depending on the specific relationship. Pretty weak, I agree.
IMO the best way to get to TXL from the west coast on *A is LX via ZHR. Just don't book the 1 hour connection.
