Star Gold status does not apply for lounge access, but if you have business fare (SMART or BEST) you do get LH lounge access, even with no elite status. Additionally, UA has had trouble (for me) booking codeshare on Germanwings 4U, I was pleased about being able to grab a quick flight directly from HAM to CDG and get *A/MP credit.
