Our last stay in Bali was at the much acclaimed Interconti. A favorite of many for good reason.

I visited this hotel some 20 years ago and it was my very first luxury hotel experience.

Firstly I have to say I was disgraced with my initial contact with the hotel. I booked the Uluwatu suite which is over $700 a night. The hotel contacted me before my arrival and said that although the suite has an occupancy of 4 at no extra cost they were going to charge my daughter $50 a day for use of the club facilities (shes 9) although she would not be able to use it in the evenings for canapés as she is too young. This is not stated when I booked and I took the issue up with IC Amb. Funny enough the fee was waivered. Robbing b*@tards. This left a bad taste in my mouth.

The resort is huge and very impressive but they get a lot wrong. They seem to be trying to copy four seasons a lot which I don’t get, they have a different concept and should stick to it.

The club lounge is impressive and very posh and the hotel has held up well over the years but they must remember guests are on holiday not business.

The IC Bali for me was a love and hate relationship.

I loved:
The Suite
The Club Amenities
The Pool
The location
The Club lounge
The extension of Club cocktails to the beach bar at sunset
The Sunset
Being close to Jimabaren bay seafood eats
The free airport drop off

I hated:
Some of the rude staff
The pretentious middle management
The way the resort tries to squeeze ever cent out of its guests
Being on the 4th floor (although the view was nice)
Lack of Plat/Amb status recognition

I would go back mainly because the evenings were special and watching the sunset was a highlight of our whole holiday.

The IC is regularly booked out with returning guests so they have their customer base but they should be careful on how they encourage new customers.
