My year just reset this week. Despite now residing in the UK, my account says I need 800 tier points to renew gold.
But that's to be expected (well, maybe not the residence bit!!).
The threshold changed in early March 2012. So the first people to be impacted are those whose year ends on 8 March next. They *should* see their new target increased from 800 to 1500 on 9 March as the first batch to come to the end of the grace period.
