We decided to take the boat back to Bali. The drive is emotional to Lombok Airport. It used to be a lot closer but to feed the tourist situation on the south coast it has moved further down so close to 2 hour transfer and a flight deterred me a little.

We booked the Gilli cat which was an experience to say the least and a bumpy ride. I would not recommend it if you don't like a bumpy boat ride with limited visibility.

We arrived at Padang Bai and were picked up by the hotel in a luxury people carrier. 40 mins later we arrived at the Viceroy.

What a place.

As per the first post of this report i am always a little cautious with independent properties. They can lack the management of larger chains but the Viceroy just seemed to get it right.

Heres my view. Its Not cheap but quality comes at a cost.

The resort is spotless everything has quality and as a guest you just feel at home. Yes like a lot of hotels on the river there are steps and steep slopes in the resort but this did not matter, the flowers and resort carvings made up for it as we walked around.

We had the huge 400m Viceroy Villa which has an open plan living area right on the pool and a huge bedroom on-suite either side. Both bedrooms are impressive and the master one has a waterfall. The bedding and fittings all of the highest quality.

The private pool is top and large enough to swim and play, my daughter loved it particularly with the view of the gorge and forest.

The View is unbeatable honestly. I did just stare for hours into the green valley amazing and very relaxing. I had a couple of bottles of Champagne whilst taking in that view and it made me very appreciative of life.

The hotel offers free shuttles which are bespoke to your requirement into ubud. A great feature. Booking a pick up location in town worked well too.

This is one of the only hotels that I wanted to spend lots of time in resort. The privacy and luxury was simply overwhelming.

The food is also top. First class and I enjoyed breakfast very much, although breakfast was ala carte you could order unlimited items. The best tasting food we had in Bali.

A great hotel and I think the images speak for themselves.
