Chinese airlines are vastly improving their J longhaul products.
Some staff can be not-so-good as they were in the old days and the ground/booking management/irrops can be variable. But the product is on a positive trend and flat beds are becoming the norm, much better than AF seats.
It is true that it is not Chinese culture to insure that your wine glass is always full, but you just have to ask when the FA does not do it systematically. Ringing the call button is quite normal in Asia. And Chinese do treat VIPs (e.g. premium pax) well.
