Today I was making some reservations directly with a Marriott sales manager based out of Frankfurt, Germany. I've worked directly with her over the last 2 years with several reservations for myself and my employees. I casually asked about the Moxy brand in Germany and she was happy and excited to share several pieces of information with me. She mentioned that she's a part of the German marketing research team for the Moxy brand and that she could only speak on behalf of the plans in Germany.
Moxy is set to compete directly in areas where a Best Western is in Germany. For example, she said there are plans to have Moxy in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich, however most will be located in areas currently not served by a Marriott property. Locations she mentioned were: Aachen, Ansbach, Bad Mergentheim, Bamberg, Garmisch, Kassel, Kaiserslautern, Regensberg, Schweinfurt and Winterbach.
The brand will be designed for self-sufficient travelers and/or those just looking for a nice, trendy and inexpensive place to get some rest. The plan is for the hotels to only offer studio-sized rooms; no 1, 2 or 3 bedroom suites. There won't be any full-service offerings or amenities, however it would be comparable to any 3-star hotel. "Except our Moxy brand will have an unmatched personality!"
She also mentioned that there is still a discussion on the points per dollar you would earn. She believes it will be less than 10 points per dollar, but she's unsure.
Also, not sure if it's been mentioned or noted before, but she also mentioned that several of the older CY hotels in Germany will either be sold or converted over to another Marriott brand before 2020.
