GVA has two exits; one into France and one into Switzerland. Make sure you go through the right one since getting to the other side is a long and convoluted journey.
With regards to the Hertz or thrifty issue, don't worry. They are small counters that are right next to each other. So if you go to the wrong one, the other is two steps away.
