With domestic US flights, the airline is supposed to reimburse you for "reasonable expenses" - for me the first night that was a complete set of toiletries and clothes (everything) I would need for the next day.

The second and third days included new pants and more clothes (I would call around 5 after work, if no status update, off to the store).

Forth day included a duffel to take everything home. I only spent around $200 and DL paid me back by check no questions asked. I met up with my bag on my way home.

It has been suggested there is a $50 a day limit, that doesn't seem to be the case as I am not the only one I know this has happened too....

So be it, what can a hotel do for me? Not much, I don't expect them to make up for my airlines failure. It is a nice gesture but not a requirement, the airlines are going to pay me for it. Now if all hell breaks loose and I am snowed/flooded in? Some TV dinners and things like beef jerky, soda, popcorn, water, nuts, helps. Oh and a generator
