Hopefully. However, part of what one buys at a luxury hotel is service. A good clean bed with limited service can be had in many places for less money. Those places don't employ the same number of staff as luxury hotels. Those extra jobs come with extra responsibilities. It's not as if jobs at luxury hotels are jobs of last resort. In many places they are highly sought after and in some cases they can be career opportunities. The hotel industry, particularly in the luxury space, is still a place where you can start as a bellboy or housekeeper and end up as a GM. At the same time, compensation varies quite a bit. While OP shames the guest wanting late service with visions of missing the last train to the bus for a five hour commute, in union hotels wages and work rules can be quite liberal. Banquet waiters in unionized New York hotels make well into the six figures.

OP sells her colleagues short and undermines the service element that guests are paying for by proffering up a bunch of tips so people who pay $1,000 per night for a bed don't annoy or inconvenience the housekeeping department. YMMV.
