Not meaning to beat a dead horse, but the above T & C contradicts itself by the mere mention of MR points. Why mention MR points on an Aeroplan Platinum and Aeroplan Gold card? The contradiction opens itself up to the question if the T & C is written correctly and belongs in a regular Amex card rather than an Aeroplan card.
Also, the success of those claiming off of the AE Platinum card further opens up the question whether the T &C belongs with the Aeroplan card. Amex really needs to clean their act up because there is now immense competition with Infinite CIBC and TD AE insurance covering reward redemptions.
Looking at "Certificates of Insurance" rather than some summary in marketing material:
1. For out of province/out of coutry medical insurance, I do not see any condition about purchasing tickets. Probably covers any trip, whether flying or driving.
2. For trip cancellation/interruption insurance: in a section entitled "when does coverage begin and end," it mentions that coverage is provided whenever the entire cost of prepaid travel, accommodations, and/or recreation arrangements are paid for with your card, or by redeeming Membership Rewards points etc..
However there is no such a thing as "membership rewards" for Aeroplan Plat. so this seems meaningless. Probably copied from regular plat without proer editing?
3. For flight and baggage delay, "Full fare - means 100% of the airline ticket price, including taxes was charged to the card. Full fare is extended to include airline tickets obtained through the redemption of points from the card reward program when applicable taxes have been charged to the card..."
4. For lost baggage, same wording on "full fare."
So I suspect the "redeeming membership rewards" really is a mistake and aeroplan redemptions should be included.
