I had a SkyTrain for a while, but for someone who travels with a Notebook, it just didn't work out. I wish they had included a pocket for a laptop on the backpack side of the bag. With just 2 pockets, you either have a really hard time getting to the laptop, or it is so far away from your body it makes the whole bag akward to carry.
I also wish they included some kind of compression mechanism for the bag itself. This particular bag gets... baggy. The Mother Lode has great external compression straps that let you cinch down the outside of the bag. Appearing more compact is a big part of flight attendants letting you take bags onboard
With just an iPad or no laptop this would be a great bag.
What I do with the SkyTrain carrying a MBP 13” is to use the sleeve from the Vertigo combo from SF bags. With the MBP/sleeve in the SkyTrain, the shoulder bag is light and has the most-accessed stuff handy. Both easily fit under a seat.
