Being recyclable is not better for the environment UNLESS the item is actually tied to a recycling program. The press release is not clear on this . . .
If you go to the video that was included as a link in the press release they make a specific mention to this point.
The answer is YES and they have a request to passengers to make this possible. (ie don't put paper or anything in the cup).
For me the bigger point is will the FA's follow the policy of collecting the cups, some don't do the recycling at all. I feel the FA's are just being lazy when they do this.
