Amtrak's Current Refund/Cancel Policy?
I've never had to refund a ticket on Amtrak before, so please excuse my confusion with the way their policy is written.
I'm planning on going to Providence, RI for the day on Sunday the 16th (President's Day long weekend)
I am planning to take Amtrak BOS-PVD, and return on Amtrak on train 88. However, I'm not sure of whether the train will be on time.
Train 88 leaves PVD at 6:23PM. The MBTA Commuter Rail leaves at 7:05PM. If train 88 is more than a half hour late, would I be able to cancel the ticket for a voucher? Any fees? (fare type will be Value). According to Amtrak's website, the ticket office will be open until 11PM at PVD.
If for some reason I can't cancel the ticket at PVD (long lines, ticket counter closed for some reason, etc) will I still be able to cancel the ticket for a voucher if the train has already left? (for example, if I get on the commuter rail, it takes 1hr 30 mins to get to Boston, and the Northeast Regional train departs PVD while I'm on the commuter rail, would I be able to cancel the ticket at Boston? Or would I have to forfeit the value of the ticket?)
I'd rather take Amtrak (for the points and for getting me back faster) but I'd rather not be delayed at PVD if the train is late.
