Oh shucks. I now realize that my own comments about your remark were too strong, too. I apologize. And I'll take my own advice about the chill pill.

It's policy at AC--and I think at most airlines--to dim cabin lights on night flights except during service. Most passengers seem to prefer it. On most evening flights we get asked several times when cabin lights will be dimmed. I personally prefer it because I find that most of the passengers prefer it--even on long day flights. Not to generalize, but passengers from certain countries seem able--I know not how--to sleep bolt upright in Y seats all the way from Canada to afar, and they overwhelmingly want it dark. As for it being policy to keep it dim, I suppose the rationale might be that those who want light can turn their reading light on. I take your point about the quality and the reliability of those lights though. One could just as easily argue that those who want it dark could travel with eyeshades, or that AC could do as some carriers do and provide them, but there it is.

As I wrote in my previous post, I really don't understand what the big deal is, but some clearly feel quite strongly about it. As I'm sure you already know, you don't have to close your blind on any AC flight, and any FA who comes on any stronger than politely asking if you'd mind closing it and being fine with your choice not to is out of line.
